何かから切り取られた小さな部分で、特に植物を増やすための挿し木や、新聞・雑誌から切り抜いた記事や写真などのこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

園芸では「挿し木」、報道や資料としては「切り抜き」と使い分ける。'plant cuttings'は増やす茎片、'newspaper cuttings'は記事や写真の保存。単数形と混同しないよう注意。
