‘Contender’는 단순 참가자가 아닌 우승 가능성이 높은 경쟁자를 의미한다. 주로 스포츠, 시상식, 정치 등에서 사용된다. ‘Contestant’(참가자), ‘Challenger’(도전자)와 혼동하지 말 것.
