다른 나라나 지역에 사람을 보내어 그곳을 지배하거나 통치하는 것. 흔히 한 나라가 다른 지역을 식민지로 만드는 행위를 의미함.

'식민지화하다'는 주로 역사, 정치 또는 과학 분야(예: 박테리아가 표면을 식민지화하다)에서 사용됩니다. 착취와 억압의 의미로 부정적인 뉘앙스를 가질 수 있습니다. 'settle(정착하다)'와는 달리 통치와 지배의 의미가 포함됩니다.
