爪や爪で何かを強く、または必死に引っ掻いたり、掴んだりすること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に動物の動作に使われますが、人が必死な時にも使われます（例：'clawing at the door'）。荒々しく、切羽詰まったイメージがあります。フォーマルな場では使いません。
