形容人安静而沉思，常常显得有些忧郁。用于动物，特别是母鸡时，表示它们想孵蛋。

形容人时较书面或用于描写，口语中较少。用来形容鸡时为专业术语。形容人时偶尔指有生孩子的渴望，通常还是指安静、沉思。不要和'moody'（情绪多变）混淆。
