ベンチウォーマーは、チームのメンバーでありながら試合にあまり出場せず、主にベンチに座っている選手のことです。

主にスポーツ用語ですが、時には他の活動で控えめな人にもユーモアを込めて使います。「ride the bench」は、試合に出ずベンチで待機している状態を表します。
