"beat to" in Korean

~보다 먼저 하다~보다 앞서다

Definition

다른 사람보다 먼저 뭔가를 하거나 도달하는 것. 특히 어떤 일을 먼저 끝낼 때 사용한다.

비격식적 표현. 주로 사람 이름이나 대명사와 함께 쓴다('beat you to it'). 공식적인 경쟁보다는 일상적인 행동에 자주 사용된다.

I beat my friend to the bus stop.

나는 친구보다 먼저 버스 정류장에 **도착했다**.

She wanted to answer, but I beat her to it.

그녀가 대답하려 했지만 내가 **먼저 말했다**.

You have to be quick if you want to beat me to the last cookie.

마지막 쿠키를 먼저 먹으려면 빨라야 해.
