脳卒中や脳出血によって突然意識や身体の機能を失うこと。比喩的に、非常に強い怒りや驚きを表すときにも使われます。

非常に改まった語で、医療分野や書き言葉で用いられることが多いです。日常会話では「脳卒中」が主に使われます。比喩的な使い方（激怒）は文学や冗談で見られます。
