Definition

الـ alternative هو خيار أو احتمال آخر يمكن استخدامه بدلًا من الخيار المعتاد أو بدلًا من شيء آخر. وقد يشير إلى خيار مختلف أو طريقة أو خطة أو حل آخر.

يشيع استخدامه في عبارات مثل 'an alternative to' و 'have no alternative' و 'alternative energy'. وعندما يأتي صفة، فإنه يعني غير تقليدي أو مختلفًا عن السائد، مثل 'alternative music'. يخلط بعض المتعلمين بين استعماله اسمًا ('We need an alternative') واستعماله صفة ('an alternative plan').
