困難な状況で素早く冷静に考える力を表します。賢さや機転が利くことも含みます。

ほとんどの場合「wits」は複数形で使います。「keep your wits about you」は「油断しない」、「match wits」は「知恵を競う」、「at your wits’ end」は「困り果てる」意味になります。口語的な表現です。
