使某物變寬或變得更寬；增加某物的寬度。

可作及物（如“widen the road”拓寬道路）或不及物動詞（如“the road widens”路變寬）。既可指實體，也可用於“widen your perspective”等抽象用法。請勿與“broaden”混用，'widen'偏重寬度的變化。
