指待在某處或暫時不行動，直到某人到來、某事發生或合適的時間到來。它也可以表示某事正為某人準備好或可供使用。

'Wait' 常和 'for' 一起用，如 'wait for the bus'。'Wait to' 表示延後做某事，如 'wait to eat'。像 'a surprise waits for you' 這種說法比較書面或正式，不如日常口語常見。
