指在水、泥或類似的東西中行走,因為有一定深度所以行動不容易。也可指在大量文件、資訊等事物中費力地慢慢處理或前進。

常和 'through' 連用,後面常接 'water'、'mud'、'snow'、'paperwork' 等,如 'wade through a river'、'wade through mud'、'wade through emails'。這個詞通常帶有「緩慢、喫力地前進」的意思。比喻用法在日常英語和新聞寫作中都很常見。不要和 'walk'(普通地走)或 'swim'(不站立、靠遊動前進)混淆。
