'Underestimate' 'underrate' से ज़्यादा औपचारिक है और ये अधिकतर क्षमताओं, जोखिम या मात्रा के लिए इस्तेमाल होता है। सामान्य वाक्य: 'underestimate someone', 'never underestimate'। 'Overestimate' से न मिलाएँ—वह इसका उल्टा है।
