武器を持っていない状態で、身を守るための武器や手段がないこと。

警察やニュースなど、公式な場面でよく使われる。'unarmed civilian' や 'unarmed man/woman' という表現に多い。「armed（武装した）」の反対語。比喩的に「助けがない」場合には使わない。

The man was unarmed when he entered the building.
