台風とは、強い風と大雨をもたらす非常に強力な熱帯性の嵐で、主に西太平洋で発生します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「台風」は特に西太平洋の嵐に使われ、他の地域の同様の現象は「ハリケーン」や「サイクロン」と呼ばれます。一般的な嵐には使われません。
