Definition

「tried」は「try」の過去形で、何かをしようと努力した、または試してみたことを意味します。

「tried」は動詞の不定詞（tried to 〜）や名詞（tried the 〜）の前によく使います。“tried and true”は信頼できるという意味で別用法です。

I tried to open the door, but it was locked.

私はドアを開けようと**試みた**が、鍵がかかっていた。
