塔

Definition

塔は、周囲の建物や地面よりも高くそびえる細長い建造物です。建物の一部である場合も、独立して建てられ観察や通信、防御などに使われる場合もあります。

「clock tower」「watchtower」「radio tower」「office tower」などの表現があります。一般的な高層ビルとは異なり、高さや垂直な形を強調する場合に「塔」を使います。「tower」は動詞でも使われ、「〜より高くそびえる」という意味になります。

The old stone tower is near the river.

古い石の**塔**は川の近くにあります。
