激しい身体的または精神的な苦痛、またはそれを人に与えること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

日常会話よりも文語や文学でよく使われます。'emotional torment'なら「精神的苦しみ」、動詞なら「誰かを苦しめる」。軽い不快感には使われません。
