重くて分厚い本のこと。多くの場合、学術書や全集の一巻を指します。

フォーマルや文学的な場面で使われ、日常会話ではあまり使われません。特に学術書や歴史書、大作などに使われますが、ユーモラスに分厚い本一般を指すときもあります。
