Definition

墓の頭の部分に立てられる石で、故人の名前や生没年、時に短いメッセージが刻まれていることが多いもの。

「墓石」「墓碑」は同じ意味で使われる。比喩的に、何かの終わりを象徴する際（例：「彼のキャリアの墓石となった」）にも用いることがある。

The tombstone had her name and the years 1920 to 2005.
