活動や作業の経過時間を測ったり、一定時間後に動作を開始・停止するために使う装置や設定。

「タイマー」はキッチンや電子機器、アプリでよく使われます。例えば「タイマーを設定する」「複数のタイマー」「キッチンタイマー」など。「ストップウォッチ」とは用途が異なります。
