トラは、オレンジ色の毛皮に黒い縞模様がある大型の野生ネコ科動物です。アジアに生息し、力強さと美しさで知られています。

通常は動物として使われますが、人や物事が強い・たくましいと表現する際にも使います。「paper tiger（張り子の虎）」は見かけ倒しを意味します。スポーツチームの名前などにも用いられます。
