Definition

海の水位が定期的に上がったり下がったりする現象。比喩的に、感情や出来事の大きな流れを指すこともある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

海について話す時は「満潮（high tide）」「干潮（low tide）」がよく使われます。比喩的に「the tide is turning」「a tide of ～」のような形でも使われます。「wave（波）」とは違い、tideは長い周期の水位変化です。
