誰かや何かが、何かが起こらなかったり変わらなかったりすると害や悪い結果をもたらすと言ったり示したりすること。また、危険にさらされているという意味でも使われます。

通常はフォーマルまたは中立的な場面で使われます。「threatens to leave」のように 'to' + 動詞で使用されることが多いです。小さな注意や日常的なアドバイスには使いません。
