裁判所などで、知っていることや真実だと信じていることを公に述べること、特に証人として証拠を述べる場合に使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に法律や裁判で使われるフォーマルな語です。「testified in court」＝裁判で証言した、「testified under oath」＝宣誓して証言した。日常会話ではほとんど使いません。
