Una sustancia espesa, negra y pegajosa hecha de carbón o madera, que suele usarse para hacer carreteras o superficies impermeables.

'Tar' suele usarse como sustantivo para material de carreteras o tejados. También se refiere a una sustancia dañina en el humo del cigarrillo. No confundir con 'tire' (neumático del vehículo). Raramente se usa como verbo ('to tar', cubrir con alquitrán).
