物事を長期間続けさせたり、存続させたりすること。また、必要な支援を与えて維持すること。具体的なものや抽象的なものの両方に使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマルや学術的な場面でよく使われます。“sustain life”、“sustain growth”などの表現が多いです。短期間の動作には使いません。「maintain」とはニュアンスが異なります。
