Definition

危険や困難を乗り越えて今も生きていること、または他の人が亡くなった中で唯一残っている人や物を指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマル・インフォーマルどちらでも使う。特に「surviving family members（遺族）」のように使う時は、他の人が亡くなった後に生き残っていることを強調します。「living」は単に生きている意味です。
