夕方に食べる食事のことで、家庭や地域によって主な晩ご飯や夜遅くの軽い食事を指します。

『supper』は家庭的・伝統的な響きがあり、現代では『dinner』の方が一般的です。一部地域では『dinner』が昼食、『supper』が夕食を指す場合があります。
