誰かに裁判所や法的手続きに出頭するよう正式に命じる書類。まれに、急な行動や義務への呼びかけを指すこともあります。

主に法的・公的な場面で使われる名詞で、「court summons」は「裁判所の召喚状」となる。動詞の『summon』（召喚する、呼び出す）と混同しないよう注意。義務感による呼びかけを表すこともある。
