Definition

何かに抵抗するのをやめて、その力や誘惑に負けてしまうこと。また、病気や怪我が原因で亡くなることも表す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に文語的またはフォーマルな場面で使われる。'succumbed to temptation'や'病気で亡くなる'などの組み合わせでよく用いる。「surrender」や「submit」とは意味がやや異なるので注意。
