郊外

Definition

大都市の中心部の外側に位置する住宅地域で、人々はそこに住み、仕事や学校のために都心に通うことが多いです。

通常は複数形 ('the suburbs') で使われます。'live in', 'move to', 'commute from' などとよく使われます。アメリカでは中流階級の住宅地を指すことが多く、'outskirts'（さらに遠い郊外）とは異なります。

Many families live in the suburbs and drive to the city for work.
