つまずく言葉につまる

Definition

歩いているときにつまずいてバランスを崩すこと。また、話すときに言葉が詰まったり、間違えたりすること。

実際につまずく場合と、話すときに「つまずく」「言葉につまる」という比喩的な使い方がある。'Stumble over words'は話すときの言葉のつまずきに使う。

I didn't see the rock and stumbled.

私は岩に気づかずに**つまずいた**。

She stumbled on the stairs but did not fall.
