अक्सर कठिनाई का सामना करने वाले प्रयास के लिए, भूतकाल में इस्तेमाल होता है। 'to' के साथ आता है जैसे 'struggled to learn'। इसका मतलब असफल होना नहीं, सिर्फ यह कि कठिन था।
