火に薪などを加えてさらに燃やすこと。また、感情や状況を強めたり、あおり立てたりすることも指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

実際の火に使う場合はややフォーマルですが、感情や雰囲気を煽るときによく使います。'stoke fear'（恐怖を煽る）、'stoke excitement'（興奮を高める）など表現に注意。'stroke'（なでる）と混同しないように。
