यह शब्द शारीरिक (जैसे, 'stirred the soup') और भावनात्मक अर्थों (जैसे, 'stirred feelings') दोनों में प्रयोग होता है। आमतौर पर passive में भी आता है। 'shaken' (झटका देना) या 'mixed' (मिलाना) से न मिलाएँ; 'stirred' में हल्की या गोल-गोल घुमाने की भावना होती है।
