統計は、数値やデータを集め、分析し、解釈し、まとめる学問です。また、その過程で得られる数値情報も指します。

「統計」は1つの学問分野でも常に複数形的に使われます。「統計を勉強する」（学問）や「統計によると...」「統計データ」という言い方もよく使います。
