ある物事が良いかどうか判断するための基準や水準、または規則。公的な条件や個人の期待を表すことがある。

「high standards」「meet standards」「safety standards」「living standards」などのフレーズでよく使われる。公的にも個人的にも使う。『standard』（普通、標準）とは区別する。

Our school has strict standards for student behavior.

私たちの学校は生徒の行動に対して厳しい**基準**があります。
