階段とは、建物や場所の異なる階（レベル）をつなぎ、人が上り下りできるようにした複数の段の構造です。

「階段」は建築や少しフォーマルな文脈でも使われます。「stairs」より広い意味があり、建物全体の通路を指すことがあります。
