一つの階やレベルから別の階に上がったり下りたりするための複数の段でできた構造。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「stairs」は「階段」全体を指す。一段だけを言う場合は「段」。「stairsを上る・下りる」と言いたいときは「階段を上る／下りる」と表現。
