階段を構成する、それぞれ上り下りの際に踏む一段一段のこと。

「段」は階段の一段だけを指します。全体は「階段」。「miss a stair」「sit on the stair」のように、特定の一段について言いたいときに使います。日常的には複数形が多いです。
