中心を囲んでぐるぐる回りながらだんだん離れたり近づいたりする形、ばねやカタツムリの殻のような形です。また、状況が徐々に変化し続ける様子にも使われます。

「spiral」は名詞（形）、動詞（動く）、形容詞（螺旋状の〜）として使います。比喩的に「spiral out of control」（制御できなくなる）のようにも使います。
