Definition

スパイスは、種子や樹皮、根などの植物の乾燥した部分で、料理に風味や色、香りを加えるために使います。

料理ではほとんど複数形で使われます。『ハーブ』（葉が主体）と組み合わせる表現も多いです。全ての調味料がスパイスではなく、例えば塩はスパイスに入りません。
