'Spats' 可以指人们之间的小争吵，或是以前流行的穿在鞋子外面的布或皮革套。

用作“小争吵”时很口语化，常用于关系亲近的人之间。用作鞋罩（polainas）时很少见，多用于历史或时尚语境。不要和“spit”（吐口水）混淆。
