A direção oposta ao norte, normalmente na parte inferior dos mapas; também pode referir-se à parte sul de um país ou região.

Frequente em geografia, meteorologia ou viagens. 'South' com maiúscula refere-se a regiões (como no inglês), minúscula para direções. A expressão inglesa 'go south' também indica que algo correu mal ou caiu.
