사회주의자는 자원과 생산을 사회나 정부가 소유하거나 통제하여 평등을 추구하는 사회주의를 지지하는 사람이다.

명사(사람)와 형용사(정책·정당)로 모두 쓰임. '사회주의당'을 지칭할 땐 대문자 사용. '공산주의자'와 혼동하지 않도록 주의.
