"smother" in Japanese
Definition
誰かや何かを完全に覆って息ができないようにしたり、過度の愛情や関心で相手を束縛してしまうこと。また、何かの成長や発展を妨げる意味もある。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
「smother」は多くの場合ネガティブな意味合いがあります。たとえば「smother with a pillow」は枕で窒息させる、「smother someone with love」は愛情で束縛する、「smother a fire」は覆って火を消す、など。軽く覆う時には使いません。過度や制限のニュアンスが強いです。
