تعني كلمة 'slots' فتحات ضيقة لإدخال شيء ما، أو أوقات متاحة في جدول ما، أو آلات القمار في الكازينوهات.

غالباً ما تُستخدم 'slots' بصيغة الجمع. تعبيرات شائعة هي 'time slots' (مواعيد متاحة)، 'memory slots' (فتحات في الحاسوب)، 'slot machines' (ماكينات قمار) ويحدد السياق المعنى الصحيح. لا تخلطها مع 'slits' (شقوق نحيفة جداً).
