物事の表面を素早く動くことや、文章などをざっと読むこと、また液体の表面から何かをすくい取ること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「skim a book」は大まかに読むこと、「skim milk」はクリームを取った牛乳、「skim the surface」は軽く触れること。「scan（詳しく探す）」とは違うので注意。

I will skim the newspaper before work.
